IPVanish Review – [Updated 2022]

IPVanish is a not-so-affordable VPN service available at $3.75/mo. It has 1,900+ servers in 75+ locations that support torrenting and offers valuable features like Scramble. IPVanish has received an 8.5/10 rating.

If you’ve heard of all the premium VPNs in the industry, then you’ve probably heard of IPVanish. Truth be told, IPVanish may not be able to beat the best VPN providers, but it’s still a robust VPN with tons of features, great unblocking capabilities, and fast speeds. And so, we couldn’t resist conducting an IPVanish review and testing the VPN ourselves.

So, in this review, we extensively tested the VPN’s speeds, security features, and ability to unblock geo-restricted streaming platforms. We also thoroughly read IPVanish’s privacy policy, scrutinized its server network, and usability.

Overall, we’d say that IPVanish is a reliable and safe option. However, there is still room for improvement in some areas, especially considering its server network is pretty small compared to many other VPNs. Therefore, for almost complete global coverage and best-in-class security, privacy, and unblocking capabilities, we recommend ExpressVPN as a reliable VPN provider.

We will discuss everything in detail in this IPVanish VPN review. So make sure to read till the end if you wish to find out our final IPVanish rating.

  • Robust AES 256-bit encryption
  • Unlimited simultaneous connections
  • Unblocks all major streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, BBC iPlayer
  • Fast connection speeds
  • Independently-audited no-logs policy
  • Based in the US (Member of 5 Eyes)
  • Some servers don’t work with Netflix
  • Subject to configuration issues

IPVanish Security — What Security Features Does IPVanish Offer?

IPVanish offers multiple advanced security features to users. IPVanish safeguards you from censorship, government snooping, and data sharing by encrypting users’ personal data. Once your online activity travels through an encrypted tunnel using this VPN, your data becomes anonymous and secure.

In short, IPVanish is a secure VPN service that offers strong encryption and tunneling protocols. The provider currently offers a comprehensive list of tunneling protocols, including OpenVPN, IKEv2, L2TP, IPSec, SSTP, and PPTP protocols.

Undoubtedly, the OpenVPN protocol provides both security and speed under one roof. First, however, you will need to download OpenVPN to your device directly. After that, you can create a secure OpenVPN connection from your device to the IPVanish server.

It largely depends on its 256-bit military-grade encryption to secure your internet traffic and prevents your device from cyber-attacks. Similarly, you can also download the SOCKS5 web proxy that helps users avail the same benefits as a standard VPN. Hence, you can secure your actual IP address and personal information too.

IPVanish Encryption

IPVanish provides various encryption protocols to its users. It uses AES 256-bit encryption which is the industry standard and the safest option right now. To choose the desired encryption level, you can go to IPVanish settings and choose from the available protocols.

Several Advanced Protocols

IPVanish offers multiple robust security protocols: IKEv2, IPSec, OpenVPN (UDP & TCP), and WireGuard. These let you customize your connection for all your online activities. Let’s go through the protocols in detail:

  • IKEv2: This is a speedy protocol that’s great for mobile devices. That’s because its auto-connect feature lets you smoothly transition from mobile data to Wi-Fi. But, it cannot beat OpenVPN and WireGuard’s speeds.
  • IPSec: This protocol encrypts data packets for tunneling. It protects all the traffic over a VPN connection and is compatible with most devices. IPSec is not an encryption algorithm, and instead, it’s simply a framework that secures online traffic.
  • OpenVPN: This is a super-secure protocol that’s open-source. It offers two options:
    • TCP: OpenVPN over TCP is the most reliable VPN connection type. It prevents the loss of even the smallest information packets during data transfer over the VPN. Furthermore, TCP automatically retransmits any possible loss of data packets, so you don’t have to experience incomplete downloads.
    • UDP: OpenVPN over UDP might not be the most popular connection type, but it is faster because it does not retransmit lost data packets. But UDP is a great choice for VoIP and gaming, where you cannot afford any lags.
  • WireGuard: This latest protocol offers the best security and speed combination. It offers the speediest connection when compared to other protocols. That’s why we recommend it for VoIP calls, streaming, and gaming.

We tested speeds on these protocols to see which one was faster. During our testing, OpenVPN gave us slower speeds than IKEv2 and WireGuard.

The dedicated desktop app of IPVanish packs in three VPN protocols: IKEv2, WireGuard, IPSec, and OpenVPN. Speaking of OpenVPN and WireGuard, the IPVanish application should be launched in administrator mode if you wish to use these protocols. There’s also an ‘Automatic’ option that chooses the best possible protocol as per your connection type.

We found these protocols in our IPVanish Windows app.

IPVanish Review – Speed Tests

IPVanish delivered great VPN connection speeds that lie on the higher end of the average. In our latest speed tests, IPVanish delivered fast speeds on almost all servers.

For conducting all testing, we used our Lenovo ThinkPad (Windows) and MacBook Air. The speeds that we received depended on our devices, internet service provider, and base connection, and your numbers would be different than what we got. So, the tests below would give you a sense of how IPVanish worked on two operating systems.

I ran these tests on my Windows 10 laptop.

Speed without VPN (Chicago US)

Download Speed (Mbps)82.65 Mbps
Upload Speed (Mbps)79.56 Mbps
Ping (ms)12 ms

Short Distance Servers Speed

Toronto (Canada):

Using IPVanish’s “Quick Connect” feature, I connected to a server in Toronto, Canada, and experienced a slight slowdown in speeds.

Download Speed (Mbps)78.42 Mbps
Upload Speed (Mbps)65.35 Mbps
Ping (ms)15 ms

Guadalajara (México):

Next, I tried a Guadalajara, Mexico server and got similar results with a slightly higher ping.

Download Speed (Mbps)76.23 Mbps
Upload Speed (Mbps)64.75 Mbps
Ping (ms)19 ms

IPVanish’s short-distance server speeds were almost identical to my actual ISP connection speeds.

With such a small decrease in the speeds, I could easily stream Netflix and other streaming services without buffering or lags. In addition, I experienced no issue with the local servers, so let’s see how its long-distance servers performed.

Long Distance Servers Speed

Next up, we tested IPVanish’s speed on long-distance servers. Again, I expected a decent amount of speed loss because, naturally, my internet traffic data had to travel to the server that was far away from my actual location.

Manchester (United Kingdom):

First, I started with the United Kingdom server. It took me 15 seconds to establish the connection with the UK – Manchester server. The download speed that I managed to get on the UK server was 71.85 Mbps, and the upload speed was 69.56 Mbps.

Download Speed (Mbps)71.85 Mbps
Upload Speed (Mbps)69.56 Mbps
Ping (ms)23 ms

Mumbai (India):

I also decided to test the Indian server speed as it’s far from my actual location (13,142.80 km from the US).

Download Speed (Mbps)69.75 Mbps
Upload Speed (Mbps)65.45 Mbps
Ping (ms)24 ms

Melbourne (Australia):

Download Speed (Mbps)64.75 Mbps
Upload Speed (Mbps)63.54 Mbps
Ping (ms)29 ms

IPVanish’s long-distance server speeds were slighter slower than the short-distance server speed, as expected.

The results of the speed test are summarized in the table below:

Server locationDownload speedUpload speedPings
Germany75.34 Mbps65.81 Mbps213 ms
United Kingdom69.76 Mbps66.1 Mbps321 ms
United States77.31 Mbps67 Mbps206 ms
France74.61 Mbps83.72 Mbps302 ms
Italy77.84 Mbps83.4 Mbps307 ms
The Netherlands61.20 Mbps77.21 Mbps111 ms
Switzerland62 Mbps73.3 Mbps141 ms
Singapore74.33 Mbps79.4 Mbps274 ms
India68.15 Mbps64.33 Mbps282 ms

These fast speeds make IPVanish a breeze for basic browsing purposes and enable a smooth streaming experience. Although IPVanish is not the fastest by any means, it is still fast enough that it won’t cause any frustrations for users, even when performing bandwidth-intensive activities.

Is IPVanish Fast Enough for Gaming?

Yes, IPVanish is fast enough for gaming. IPVanish offers industry-leading stability and speed using the WireGuard protocol, while you may expect VPNs to increase your pings.

For example, when we tested the “Quick Connect” feature, the speeds were not as great as when we manually selected a server location. We tested IPVanish for gaming on the same factors (Download speed, Upload speed, and Ping) as we did in our speed test covered earlier.

For smooth gaming, it’s best to have a download speed of at least 15 Mbps, an upload speed of at least 1 Mbps, and the lowest pings possible. At first, it used its “Quick Connect” feature to connect us to its Toronto server (Canada).

After loading Overwatch, it connected us to its European game server. When the game first loaded, we experienced a huge lag, but after a few minutes in, it ran pretty smoothly, and we could play it without interruptions.

We then tried connecting to IPVanish’s United Kingdom (Manchester) server to test its performance. It gave a decent speed (70.21 Mbps), considering it was a long-distance server. However, we experience no issues while playing Overwatch online with IPVanish.

IPVanish Server Network

IPVanish offers 2000+ servers in 75+ locations, among which Australia, US, Germany, Canada, and UK have the most servers. You can choose a server based on the city in these countries.

All these servers are physically available in their respective regions.

Moreover, it also offers servers in South America and Africa that some VPNs fail to cover. But please note that no servers are available in restrictive countries like Russia, China, and Saudi Arabia.

It’s great to have a massive server network as it lets you avoid overcrowding and offers fast speeds at all times. The best thing about IPVanish is that it doesn’t rent any servers from third parties. This provides improved security and ensures that your data won’t fall into the wrong hands. Moreover, none of its servers are virtually located anywhere, which is another pro of this VPN.

In case you’re confused, you can use IPVanish’s Quick Connect feature, which will connect you to the best server available. When we clicked on it, we were instantly connected to a Canadian server, which offered better speeds than most long-distance options.

You can also choose any server and click ‘Connect’ to use your preferred location. You can always filter servers by country, latency, and protocol, or manually choose one.

Streaming – Does IPVanish Support Reliable and Efficient Unblocking?

Yes, IPVanish is extremely good for streaming. Even though IPVanish doesn’t boast on its website, it had almost no issues unblocking US/UK Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, HBO Max, and others. We tested multiple locations with tons of streaming services, and overall, they had a high success rate.

Can I use Netflix with IPVanish?

Yes, you can use Netflix with IPVanish. In fact, IPVanish is a great option for streaming Netflix from anywhere. It offers a massive server network that can easily unblock Netflix libraries worldwide. Along with that, its blazing-fast speeds let you stream your favorite shows without any interruption or lags.

It unblocked American Netflix and easily bypassed Netflix restrictions when we tested it. Unfortunately, you will have to find a working server because some US servers may sometimes not unblock Netflix. But IPVanish offers multiple servers in the US, so you can test different server locations to see which one works with Netflix.

To verify its Netflix unblocking performance, we tried unblocking American Netflix using a US – Seattle server, which worked like a charm.

We accessed multiple titles and could stream them in HD.

Apart from the US and UK Netflix, IPVanish did manage to unblock popular Netflix libraries, as shown in the table below:

Netflix LibrariesWorking (Yes/No)Speed drop (%)Buffering
United States15% decreaseNo
United Kingdom6.8% decreaseMinimal
France2.9% decreaseNo
Australia4.8% decreaseMinimal
Canada23% decreaseMinimal
Germany26% decreaseNo
Japan32 % decreaseMinimal
Singapore8.7% decreaseNo
India6.7% decreaseNo
Brazil8.5% decreaseNo

Apart from unblocking Netflix, IPVanish also unblocked Hulu without any issues. We used its Chicago server, and our load times were somewhere around 15-20 seconds. This was simply great to watch as even the premium VPNs struggle to circumvent Hulu’s geoblocks.

You can watch all exclusive movies easily on Hulu.

The next streaming platform we tested with IPVanish was HBO Max. Now, not only could we unblock the streaming service, but we could also stream Game of Thrones in Ultra-HD without any buffering. Since we’re big GOT fans, we were pretty impressed by the results. Moreover, we could even stream HBO Max on a bigger screen by configuring IPVanish on Kodi.

IPVanish let us stream Game of Thrones without lags.

Using IPVanish’s UK servers, we could also unblock Disney+ UK and Sky Sports. After waiting for about 7 seconds, we could access the exclusive content of both streaming platforms. The picture was clear, and the connection was lag-free throughout the streaming.

IPVanish could unblock all Disney+ libraries easily.

IPVanish could not unblock BBC iPlayer

Unfortunately, sometimes IPVanish faces issues unblocking popular streaming sites like BBC iPlayer and Amazon Prime Video. In the case of Prime Video and BBC iPlayer, IPVanish’s servers couldn’t unblock them during testing. You can see in the screenshot below that we’re facing a geo-restriction error on iPlayer despite being connected to a UK server:

We got the same error while accessing BBC iPlayer with IPVanish.

Leaks – Does IPVanish Leak IP, DNS, & WebRTC?

No, IPVanish does not leak IP, DNS, or WebRTC. Since its DNS servers are only accessible when you’re connected to the VPN, its DNS is secure and private. But, if you’re using DNS servers other than IPVanish’s, then your actual IP address can leak. That’s because other DNS servers are not secure since they are located outside IPVanish’s protected tunnel.

We tested for IPVanish for leaks when we connected to its Canada – Toronto server. We noticed while testing IPVanish for this review that the provider is leak-proof.

IP/DNS Leak Test

No IP and DNS leaks were detected in the IPVanish leak test. We were present in Chicago at the time of this test, and as you can see, there was no Chicago DNS detected online.

Our IP address in the United States stayed masked while using IPVanish.

WebRTC Leak Test

We further conducted a WebRTC leak test by visiting browserleaks.comYou can see that our WebRTC information was absolutely safe as well with this VPN:

We did not face any leaks in this test as well.

Read our exclusive VPN leak test guide to know more about different types of VPN leaks like IP, DNS, and WebRTC.

Virus Test

We checked for viruses in the IPVanish Windows app file on VirusTotal. It did NOT contain any viruses, and it’s perfectly safe to use. Here is the screenshot of the virus test:

We tested its Windows file and got this result.

IPVanish Kill Switch

IPVanish takes your online privacy very seriously. It ensures that all your data is tunneled and safe with excellent encryption support. Furthermore, unlike many other VPN providers, it offers its users the “Kill Switch” as well.

The kill switch feature, when enabled, disconnect you from the internet if your VPN connection drops. This way, whatever you are doing online remains absolutely secure and away from the eyes of snoopers.

IPVanish’s kill switch is only available on macOS, Android, and Windows. Moreover, when tested, it turned out to be quite reliable. We could easily enable and disable the kill switch on our Window device. All we had to do was visit our Settings and find the toggle under ‘Connection.’

While we were personally testing this feature, impressively, it didn’t fail to work even once. So we were quite satisfied with IPVanish Kill Switch’s performance and highly recommend it to users that often download torrents.

Compatible with TOR

TOR allows you to encrypt your traffic across different servers. Similarly, you can use TOR and a VPN to attain another layer of protection. This way, you can improve your anonymity to the next level.

Furthermore, you can hide your original identity from online snoopers and ISPs. Luckily, IPVanish is included among those VPNs that are compatible with TOR.

Scramble (Obfuscation)

IPVanish uses the Scramble feature to disguise OpenVPN traffic as regular HTTPS traffic, a technique known as obfuscation. This comes in handy in countries with strict policies against VPN usage and heavy online content regulation. If you cannot bypass geo-restrictions and censorship through normal connection protocols, the Scramble feature can be helpful.

To test this feature, we used it while we were connected to a few public Wi-Fi networks that we know to have strict VPN restrictions. About 90% of the time, it worked flawlessly, got connected within a few seconds, and allowed us to enjoy complete online freedom.

Split tunneling

The IPVanish Android app has a built-in split tunneling feature that allows you to leave applications of your choice out of the VPN connection. This is useful when you only want to pass traffic relating to specific apps through the VPN and leave others connected generally to the web. Unfortunately, split tunneling is unavailable for IPVanish apps on devices other than those running Android.

IPVanish Value-Added Features

The US-based VPN service also delivers numerous value-added features that include:

Speed Test

Through the speed test feature, you can check your device’s internet connection speed in no time. It comes in handy when you want to check your upload and download speeds without leaving the app. In terms of speed, IPVanish delivered satisfactory results.

Password Generator

The password generator is another impressive privacy tool that helps you in developing a strong password. Hence, you can protect your crucial information, including your financial data too.

Does IPVanish have an AdBlocker?

Unfortunately, IPVanish does not have an in-built ad blocker. To avoid annoying and intrusive ads, you can use a third-party ad blocker with IPVanish. The other option is to use VPN services like ExpressVPN or Surfshark that offer ad blockers.

See also: ExpressVPN vs. IPVanish comparison.

Does IPVanish keep logs?

Despite being located in the United States, IPVanish does not keep usage logs, but it keeps connection logs. IPVanish has repeatedly claimed that they have a strict zero log policy. Still, in one case, they handed over the connection log to the Department of Homeland Security.

The Department of Homeland Security approached Highwinds Network Group information regarding a user involved in child abuse and pornography. It’s important to note that even if you hide your IP address from the government, you will still be tracked online and never be completely safe while using IPVanish.

As per their policy,

As previously outlined IPVanish does not collect or log any traffic of its Services, under any circumstances. We may, however, compile some statistical information related to app crashes.

Based on the above response, they are bound to collect users’ information that includes distinct facets. These are:

  • Active email addresses
  • Active payment methods

Likewise, they also need a name, street address, city, state, zip code, and other basic information to process payments from their users. They also have to store users’ information from their site for troubleshooting purposes as well.

Cookies that IPVanish collects

I found that IPVanish uses cookies on its site to collect information about how subscribers use the site. When you use cookies, IPVanish may get their hands on your account credentials instantly.

On the other hand, you can disable cookies on your browser if you do not want them to save your personal information. They also use other third-party services like Google Analytics to analyze and create reports regarding website usage.

IPVanish keeps logs (FBI case)

In 2016, IPVanish was operated by different management that worked with the FBI. As a result, they provided user data to the authorities for an investigation. This is quite concerning as IPVanish claims to be a “zero log VPN.” But it’s important to note that this happened when IPVanish was under different management.

Currently, IPVanish is owned by a company called J2 Global that took over in 2017. So now, the only information they collect is the user information that is required in the registration process, as IPVanish has explained in its privacy policy:

IPVanish is a zero-logs VPN service provider, which means that we do not record any connection, traffic, or activity data regarding our Services.

IPVanish has a detailed privacy policy that explains its stance on logging user data, but this case does undermine its credibility and trustworthiness.

There are other options available like ExpressVPN, and Surfshark, with verified privacy policies and complete safe jurisdictions (The British Virgin Islands)

Trustworthiness – Can IPVanish be Trusted?

IPVanish has a good reputation in the online industry and is certainly a trustworthy company. It has an impressive Trustpilot rating of 4.6/5.0 stars. As you can see in the below image, IPVanish has received a whopping 82% of the reviews as five stars. This shows the popularity of IPVanish.

ipvanish-trust-pilot-ratingIs IPVanish good for Torrenting?

IPVanish is a good choice for torrent users. You can download torrents by using the SOCKS5 proxy server that supports HTTP traffic and P2P BitTorrent client or simply use IPVanish’s VPN servers to protect your P2P sessions.

You won’t find any special torrent-optimized servers since all of IPVanish’s servers support torrenting. These servers are designed to protect your privacy and increase your download speed while torrenting — but only the top VPNs have them.

When I tested IPVanish for torrenting, my speeds were fast, and I completed a 2-hour movie download in less than 15 minutes. Just make sure DNS and IPv6 Leak Protection are both turned on in the Connection Settings menu to ensure your downloads and uploads stay anonymous.

As you can see in the screenshot below, IPVanish guarantees secure and anonymous torrenting. I tested this provider with the IPleak.net torrent tracker, and the results were completely satisfactory as my actual IP or DNS wasn’t detected by the website tracker.

With a decent logging policy, P2P/torrenting supporting features, and fast speeds, I’d say IPVanish is ideal for torrenting.

IPVanish Jurisdiction

IPVanish is based in the US, and yes, it does fall under the five eyes country. This means the United States has data retention laws, and IPVanish has to abide by those laws. So if the authorities ask to hand over users’ data, they would have to do it.

If your VPN service operates from oppressive countries like China, Russia, and others, the chances are that it may record your online activities due to data retention laws.

When you select a VPN service based within Five Eyes, Nine Eyes, and Fourteen Eyes territories, your VPN connection logs and personal data may end up with the authorities.

IPVanish: User Experience

IPVanish offers user-friendly apps that are perfect for beginners. It is also quite easy to download and install IPVanish as it provides detailed setup guides for different platforms.

It also automatically chooses the best protocol for your needs, but if you want, you can also configure advanced settings in the app according to your requirements.

Its app is very lightweight, doesn’t slow down your system, and they’re quick to start up when you want to connect.

The app allows you to connect to the best available server and city in a particular country. However, it is wise to connect to a server close to your actual location for the best results.

Easy Setup and Installation of IPVanish

Setting up and installing IPVanish is straightforward. I tested the IPVanish installation on my Windows, Macbook, Android, and iOS (iPhone) devices. Again, it was very clear as I had to go to IPVanish’s website and download the app.

Setting up IPVanish is a 3 step process:

  1. First, sign in and subscribe to a plan.
  2. Then, enter your email address and payment method.
  3. Then, visit IPVanish’s website and download the app for Windows, Mac, or your respective device.

Finally, to set up IPVanish on your device, visit IPVanish’s VPN Setup and download the application on your device.

After the application is installed, all that is left is to launch it, log into it with your IPVanish subscription account details and enjoy complete internet freedom.

What’s best is that setting up IPVanish is easy on other devices, including Android and iOS. It is also faster as the installation process is automatic, so it took only about 15 seconds to set everything up on my Android phone.

For Android and iOS devices, just download the app from the IPVanish official website, and log in. After logging in, it will guide you through the app about its basic functions and features.

Uninstalling the IPVanish app is as easy as setting it up.

To fully install the app on Windows, you have to:

  1. Uninstall all the TAP drivers in Network and Sharing,
  2. Go to File Explorer > Local Disk > Program Files > locate IPVanish and click delete.

IPVanish for Windows

The Windows app is quite user-friendly and does not crash at all. It does not take much of your time for installation as well. You will not find any issue whatsoever while using the app on your Windows device.

The Windows app performed above my expectations. I did not encounter any privacy or leak issues when connected to its Indian server.

ipvanish-windows-appIPVanish for Mac

The IPVanish Mac app almost has a similar interface and functionalities, just like the IPVanish Windows app. For example, in the top right corner, you will find the connect and disconnect tab. Besides that tab, you can turn on and off the kill switch feature and choose protocols.

IPVanish for Android

The app offers an interactive design with a clear user interface. I did not experience any connectivity problems with its Android app. The app worked amazingly well as I connected to its Atlanta US server in no time. Also, you can download and install the Android app from an official Google Play Store.

IPVanish for iOS

IPVanish has an easy-to-use app for iOS as well. At the top, you will find your new IP address, and under that, your new location. At the bottom of the app, it will tell whether you are connected or disconnected.

Device Compatibility – Use IPVanish on most devices

IPVanish is compatible with all platforms such as Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android, router, Chrome OS, and Fire TV Stick.

IPVanish does not offer dedicated apps for Linux, Chromebook, Roku, or routers. You will need to set it up manually. However, with a single IPVanish account, you can connect unlimited devices simultaneously, making it a great option for a large household – and inducting it into the best VPN for multiple devices list.

IPVanish can also be configured manually on routers, but that is somewhat complicated. So instead, you can see the detailed guide on how to set up IPVanish on routers.

If you want to use IPVanish on devices like Kodi or Roku, you can either set it up manually on your router or share your VPN-enabled internet connection from your PC by setting up a hotspot.

Kodi is an open-source platform that allows you to watch your favorite media stuff for free. When I reviewed the provider, I learned that users could access their preferred Kodi add-ons while protecting their privacy through IPVanish.

You can go through an exclusive guide about IPVanish on Kodi to install the service without a problem. You can also check out the list of best VPNs for Kodi.

Besides Kodi, IPVanish also provides apps for devices like Fire TV. In addition, IPVanish’s interface is very remote control-friendly and can easily be used on devices without a mouse or keyboard.

For Android devices that don’t have App Store like Kindle or Fire Tablet, users can install IPVanish Android APK files on their devices. So, get IPVanish VPN for Android and get unrestricted access to international content from anywhere in the world.

If you’re experiencing problems with the VPN, consult this IPVanish not working guide for help.

Pricing – How much does IPVanish cost?

Here is a list of all IPVanish’s budget-friendly pricing plans:

Subscription PlanPricingDiscount
Monthly$10.95/monthNo discount
Annual$3.75/month65% discount

IPVanish currently offers two subscription plans. The monthly subscription plan will cost $10.95/month with zero discount, while the annual subscription costs $3.75/month with a 65% discount.

Compared to IPVanish, ExpressVPN is a great option that offers best-in-class VPN services at a slightly higher price and is currently offering 12 months + 3 months free subscription with a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Also, IPVanish has extended its money-back guarantee to 30 days, similar to providers like Surfshark, who also offer the same length of refund period. It also offers one of the best black Friday deals and yearly VPN discount deals that you must check out for that.

Speaking of refunds, its money-back guarantee is more or less advertised as an IPVanish free trial. Of course, it’s not exactly a free trial, but you can claim your refund if you cancel IPVanish within 30 days of purchase.

Payment Methods

Currently, IPVanish is delivering some of the most common online payment methods like:

  • PayPal
  • Credit Cards
  • Discover
  • American Express
  • JCB
  • Delta

Without offering Bitcoin or other anonymous payment options, you cannot make your subscribers truly anonymous. That said, I have not lost all my hopes in IPVanish. On the contrary, I expect that they will include Bitcoin in their payment arsenal quite soon.

IPVanish Refund Policy

IPVanish offers a 30-day money-back guarantee, meaning within those 30 days, you can get a full refund. After requesting to cancel the subscription, you will get your money back shortly. If there are problems, you can contact support.

Cancelling the IPVanish subscription is very easy:

  • Log in to your IPVanish account on the official website.
  • Click the Subscription tab on the dashboard.
  • Click the Cancel button > confirm cancellation.
  • Now, it will ask you the reason why you don’t want to continue. Again, you can state a simple reason like “I don’t need it anymore.”
  • Next, it will take you to the page where it will offer a 2-months subscription for free. You can either take up the offer by clicking “Redeem This Offer” or click “I Still Want to Continue.
  • That’s it, that’s how you will get your money back.

Unlike most VPN services, IPVanish offers 2-months subscriptions for free to retain the users. This is a great offer as you will get three months free with IPvanish.

IPVanish Efficient Customer Support

IPVanish has an efficient customer support department. You can try different ways to contact their support team:

FAQs – IPVanish Review

Yes, IPVanish is a safe VPN, and one of the main reasons for that is its top-notch security features. These robust features include a kill switch, DNS/IP leak protection, split tunneling, military-grade AES 256-bit encryption, and advanced tunneling protocols.

No, IPVanish isn’t worth its high price, especially when you consider ExpressVPN, which offers best-in-class and unparalleled VPN service for just a slightly higher cost.

You can also get 12 months plan + 3 months subscription for free with ExpressVPN. Also, ExpressVPN is a better option if you want to watch American streaming platforms like Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, and more.

No, IPVanish doesn’t offer a free trial right now. However, if you sign up for its annual and 2-year plans using its website, which we highly recommend, it does offer a 30-day money-back guarantee.

You can connect IPVanish to multiple devices simultaneously. The VPN allows as many connections as you like on as many devices as you own on each account, in any location where VPN support is offered. If you have more questions, contact IPVanish’s customer support team.

No, IPVanish doesn’t work in China. IPVanish offers IP addresses across 75+ locations, but China isn’t one of them.

No, IPVanish doesn’t keep logs of any traffic that passes through its servers. It doesn’t record where or how you connect to the internet or the websites you visit.

Unfortunately, IPVanish doesn’t offer its own ad-blocker or malware, which are handy features we prefer to see in a VPN. One other security feature it lacks is MultiHop, which adds an extra layer to your connection. But, it has split tunneling, even though it’s only available on the Android app.

Do We Recommend IPVanish?

Yes, we recommend IPVanish, but we must mention other VPN services like ExpressVPN that offer better speed and protect your online activities like no other.

However, we still wish to see more servers added to the list — especially a dedicated server for China. IPVanish may cause slow speed when connected to long-distance servers, but it is still best for streaming because it unblocks US Netflix and is the best for torrenting. The price is a bit expensive, but it’s worth buying because of its good security protocols.

All-in-all, we found IPVanish to be a good VPN to use, but not as good as the alternatives that we have mentioned. But considering overall features, pricing, customer support, and trustworthiness, IPVanish is a decent VPN service and thoroughly deserves the 8.5/10 rating.

That’s all for our IPVanish review. You can go through our other VPN reviews to read about other VPNs.

  4. Ying says:

I tried to use it , however it says
“response times out. Your DNS maybe be returning incorrect IP addresses . Please verify them with an independent third party DNS provider and modify if needed.”

    What does this mean???

    • admin says:

Hi Ying, thanks for your comment. Can please let us know which service are you trying to access with IPVanish? The problem seems to be of DNS leak. The service or website might be inspecting your DNS packets, which might be showing two different locations, causing this error to arise. One of the solutions to this problem is by getting a ‘Dedicated IP’.

Although this IPVanish review makes it seem like it’s the best VPN out there, there are some downsides to it. Don’t get wrong, people, it’s quite good but if their servers are improved, it would be even better. If I had to recommend IPVanish for anything that would be using it for online gaming to reduce ping.

  7. paul says:

for matter of facts, their vpns does not do really anonymous and i can provide any proof af that, in my experience with their swiss vpn i wasn’t able to connect to that location in the manner meant to be simply because yes, their vpn it was working BUT wasn’t anonymous and the destination service just find out my real location! this is a serious security issue! So, what about the security of all the vpns they got in their service???!

their service is even not reliable, they got issues with that, all of the sudden vpn locations are disappearing as easy as like it’s so normal to shutdown something customers they paid for and keep it down for good with no ETA given.

this is my experience with ipvanish

I have been using IPVanish for last eight months. I am writing this comment because I am a happy customer. They claim that they are the only Tier 1 VPN Provider and I think they are absolutely spot on! I use it for Torrenting and watching Netflix.
It does however come up with some issues while connecting but overall it is good. When I am travelling out of US, I use IPVanish to watch Game of Thrones via HBO.

  10. Steve says:

Can you define what you mean by” Only VPN network to be listed in the Tier-1 VPN Network” which you write in your article.”

    • admin says:

      Hi Steve,
Thank you for writing to us and asking about the Tier-1 VPN Network. A tier-1 VPN network comprises of the IP addresses that are free from the peering settlement. Hope that helps.
